The research project „Changing stateness in Africa – Practices and imaginations from Cameroon, Ghana, and Ethiopia” within the DFG Priority Programme 1448 „Adaptation and Creativity in Africa: Technologies and Significations in the Production of (Dis-)Order“ is offering for the period 1 May 2013 to 31 April 2015 1 PhD position (65% of a TVL E 13 post).
The following fields of research are of relevance for the project: cultural transfer, theory of the state, micro-sociology, BRIC states, spatial theories.
Assigned tasks:
- Selection, acquisition and examination of academic literature
- Field research in Ghana and/or Ethiopia (establishing contacts, planning process, realization)
- Quantitative and qualitative research (realization, examination, and analysis)
- Presentation and representation of the research project at workshops, conferences, symposia and congresses
- Participation in activities of the DFG Priority Programme 1448 (summer schools, workshops, biennial results conference)
- Further academic qualification (conferral of a doctorate)
Requirements:
- Degree in social sciences (research field political science, cultural sciences, sociology, area studies) or history
- Very good language skills in English
- Good language skills in French
- First experiences with organizing a research stay in West Africa and/or East Africa
- Pleasure to work independently and within an interdisciplinary research context
